Statue of Pope John Paul II, Vicenza - ItalyIn cooperation with "Consorzio Marmisti Chiampo" , Decormarmi have realized the statue of Pope Woytila that would be positioned in the homonym square in Chiampo (Vicenza) in occasion of its inauguration on April 2nd, 2006.
The statue has been realized out of a single block of marble Acquabianca, extremely uniform in colour and intact in its structure. The choice of material is important in any product, but when it deals of a piece of art, it really cannot be disregarded. As a matter of fact we cannot risk of finding break or veins on the principal traits of the statue itself. For this reason we have chosen Acquabianca, presenting a white background and a few little grey veins. In addition it perfectly fits for honed finishing (which is typical of statues) and to the specific final destination.
From a small plaster model of the Pope, our technicians prepared the programs for the CNC machinery that carried out the rough-shaping of the marble block by following the lines and sizes indicated in the programs. Once this process has been executed, the statue is still unrecognizable. The fundamental work of defining the shape, of finishing and, especially, the duty of giving expressive force is committed only to the skilful hands of our carvers. Technology surely helps the heavy rough-shaping, but it is only the manual ability, the interiorized artistic procedures and the great sensibility of the artisans that would make the lines soft and sinuous. | |
